Best Commercial Dehumidifiers

AlorAir Commercial Dehumidifier

For under $1000 you get a bright yellow dehumidifier with two sturdy strap-style handles. It can extract 85 pints of moisture a day - 13 1/2 gallons - and can work in 95% humidity, and in an operating temperature range between 33-105F. It's enough for 2,300 sq ft of space and you get a 19 foot electrical cord and a 19 foot drainage hose.

You can even place it in water, so if a basement sometimes floods, you've suffered water damage or you want to use it for emergency dry-out, no problem - it's waterproof.

It's easily stackable, so you can move three around on a handcart, though at 70lb it's quite a heavy unit. It has a condensate pump built into the unit, so that if you need to drain to an upper floor or a higher level, you won't have a problem.

It remembers your settings, so whether there's a power outage or you need to move it to a different site, you won't lose them. A slide-out MERV-8 air filter is easy to replace, and you get a 5 year warranty (1 year for the whole system, 3 for the refrigerant system and 5 for the compressor). This company really stands by its product.

Customers who have had to deal with flooded basements and commercial units report this compressor dehumidifier really does the job - pulling the water out of the air in just a day or two.

The AlorAir dehumidifer really is the best commercial dehumidifier you can buy.

Colzer 140 Pint Commercial Dehumidifier

This sleek white tower looks like a home dehumidifier rather than an industrial dehumidifier, so it's great for customer facing commercial spaces like showrooms, galleries and storage sites. It's powerful enough to extract up to 140 pints a day, and serve up to 6,000 sq feet in area, and at under $600 it's not as expensive as most commercial dehumidifiers.

You get auto defrost, intelligent humidity control, and timer functions, as well as a clothes-drying mode which lets you direct warm air where it's needed. That might come in useful for drying out deliveries that have got wet, for instance. The unit comes on casters so it's easy to move around your premises.

It works with either a 17 pint water tank with auto shutoff, or continuous drainage; a 6.5 foot hose is included in the package. But it's gravity drain only - it doesn't include a pump (which may account for the lower price).

The Colzer comes with a 2 year warranty.

Colzer Commercial Dehumidifier

Dri-Eaz 413 Revolution LGR Compact Dehumidifier

This is one of the more expensive dehumidifiers in our list at just under $2,000 but it's a powerful unit from a very well regarded manufacturer. It will extract 12 gallons of moisture daily at 80F, and as much as 17 gallons a day at higher temperatures, and is recommended for areas up to 7,000 sq ft.

But it's still quite compact, at 18" x 12" x 25", and you can stack up to three on a handcart to make it portable.  The package includes a 40 foot drain hose and 25 foot electrical cord, so you're not going to be limited by the sites of power outlets and floor drains in placing the unit where it's needed.

Controls show the temperatures of air intake and output as well as relative humidity. You can set target humidity levels, and the unit will start up only when it's needed, so you're not wasting money running it once it's achieved the desired result. You also get auto restart after a power outage with all your custom settings left intact.

Where this unit really excels is in low temperature operation - it will work as low as 33F. It's also quite quiet, at 60dB; that's too loud for domestic use, but it's only as loud as someone holding a normal conversation.

It's highly recommended for emergency property restoration services - it really sucks that moisture out of the air and will help walls, subfloors and carpets dry out quickly giving mold no time to take hold.

Dri-Eaz offers a 6 year warranty on the refrigeration system, and a lifetime warranty on the housing.

BlueDri Performance Commercial Dehumidifier

It's called BlueDri Performance and so it may not surprise you to know that it's big and it's blue! At 20" x 21" x 32.5" it's a little larger than most of the dehumidifiers we've reviewed, and it's also pretty heavy at nearly 105 lb. On the other hand the price, just below $1300, is not out of sync with similar models from other manufacturers.

This commercial dehumidifier can remove over 28 gallons of moisture a day with its high efficiency rotary compressor, and can serve a space of 4,000 sq ft. It has auto restart and an hour counter, flexible target humidity levels, and an auto water pump with a 38 foot drain hose that will pump up to 5 meters in height.

You get a 1 year warranty on the working parts and a 5 year warranty on the housing

AlorAir 90 Pint Dehumidifier

Our last selection is intended for basements and crawl spaces and has a particularly important feature for hard-to-get-at spaces, a remote control system. That means you won't have to get down into the crawlspace to change the settings or check the humidity. However, annoyingly, you'll have to buy the remote control separately, as it's not included in the basic package.

The AlorAir can extract up to 11 gallons a day and will dehumidify an area of up to 2,600 sq ft. It has an internal pump that can lift up to 14.7 feet, making it a good choice for basements, and works from 35.6F to 104F, so whether it's a cold basement or a sun-heated crawlspace, it's going to do the job. It can also work up to 90% humidity if required.

AlorAir warranty and customer service is renowned - make sure you buy from Amazon to benefit from the 5 year warranty.

Commercial Dehumidifier Buying Guide

When buying a dehumidifier for commercial or industrial space, you're going to want a large capacity, high performance model. That's particularly the case if you're in the business of emergency recovery.

These dehumidifiers could also be of interest for your home if you have an indoor swimming pool, or a very large, damp basement - though remember, they will tend to be a bit noisier than dehumidifiers designed for domestic use.

Considerations When Buying the Best Commercial Dehumidifier

You'll need to think about a number of factors when choosing the best model for your needs.

Capacity

How much moisture can the dehumidifier extract per day? For a warehouse of any size you'll want at least a 10 gallon capacity.

Built-in Humidistat

You'll want to ensure you have good controls and a detailed display so you can tell exactly what the humidity level is - "it doesn't feel sticky" is not good enough for business. That's particularly the case if you store perishables, or hygroscopic goods like paper, wood, or textiles.

Operates in Low Temperature

If you have an unheated area such as a warehouse or self-store business, you need to find a dehumidifier that will work at low temperatures.

Automatic Drainage

And you need automatic drainage. Apart from the fact that emptying water tanks takes time (and time is money), if you forget to empty a dehumidifier, it will simply shut off - and your humidity levels will begin to rise.

With big spaces to dehumidify, you'll want a good long hose so you can place your dehumidifier in the best place and still reach the drain outlet.

Warranties

You'll also want to make sure you have a good warranty. With a $40 home dehumidifier it's not so important, but if you're spending $1,000 on a business asset you need to know the manufacturer or retailer will stand behind it if it stops working. Often, you'll find the warranty covers different parts of the machine (dehumidifier, pump, housing) for different lengths of time.

Check out the company's customer service reputation before you buy.

Final Verdict

If you have heavy duty needs you'll want a heavy duty dehumidifier and all the dehumidifiers we reviewed here are robust and come with good warranties.

Commercial dehumidifiers cost a lot of money compared to domestic models, and it's tempting to try to economize. But if you're storing goods that could be damaged by humidity, or if you have large premises that aren't occupied on a daily basis, that could be a false economy.

Buy the best commercial dehumidifier that will be reliable, and that offers you the precise control that you need, and you won't regret it.
